Scripture – 1 Chronicles 19-20
Observation –
- 1 Chronicles 19:1-8 - The offense of the Ammonites
- 1 Chronicles 19:1-2 - David sends ambassadors to the Ammonites at the death of their king.
- 1 Chronicles 19:3-5 - Hanun treats Israel’s ambassadors shamefully.
- 1 Chronicles 19:6-8 - The Ammonites and Israelites prepare for war.
- 1 Chronicles 19:9-19 - Victory for Israel
- 1 Chronicles 19:9-13 - Joab divides the army into two groups.
- 1 Chronicles 19:14-15 Joab defeats the Arameans, and the Ammonites retreat.
- 1 Chronicles 19:16-19 - David wipes out the Arameans reinforcements.
- 1 Chronicles 20:1-3 - The defeat of Amnon
- 1 Chronicles 20:1 - Joab goes back out the next year to get Rabbah of Ammon.
- 1 Chronicles 20:2-3 - David wears the crown of Ammon.
- 1 Chronicles 20:4-8 - Israelite victories over the Philistine Giants
- 1 Chronicles 20:4-7 - Three victories over three giants
- 1 Chronicles 20:8 - Summary of the victories over the Philistine giants.
Examples to follow – Have good advisors. Fight boldly and trust the rest to the Lord. v13
Examples to not follow –Don't place the inexperienced in places of power.
Sins to avoid –
Promises to claim – God keeps his promises. He will make the house of David great.
Commands to obey –
Application – Be strong and show courage and may the Lord do what is good in his sight.
Prayer – Heavenly Father. Help me to be strong and show courage. I know that you will do what is right. Let it not be what is good in my sight, but what is good in yours. Amen.
