Scripture – 1 Chronicles 21
Observation –
- 1 Chronicles 21:1-13 - David commands a census to be taken
- 1 Chronicles 21:1-2 - David is moved to take a census by Satan.
- 1 Chronicles 21:3-4 - Joab objects to the census.
- 1 Chronicles 21:5-8 - The census is made, and David is immediately sorry
- 1 Chronicles 21:9-12 - David is allowed to choose his judgement
- 1 Chronicles 21:13 - David chooses the plague
- 1 Chronicles 21:14-30 - The plague
- 1 Chronicles 21:14-15 - The plague of destruction hits Israel severely.
- 1 Chronicles 21:16-19 - David’s intercession; and God’s instruction.
- 1 Chronicles 21:20-25 - David buys the threshing floor of Ornan.
- 1 Chronicles 21:26-27 - God is satisfied and relents His judgment.
- 1 Chronicles 21:28-30 - David offers a sacrifice to the Lord
Examples to follow – Object when things seem sinful, even if it means getting punished unjustly. When you realize you have sinned, repent immediately.
Examples to not follow –
Sins to avoid – Satan is watching, ready to devour and tempt you.
Promises to claim – God is merciful, but there still has to be a punishment for sin.
Commands to obey –
Application – Be ready to take a stand when people are sinful and are going to cause destruction.
Prayer – Heavenly Father, help me to be strong and courageous. Help me to stand firm against those who might hurt others by their actions. I know that you can give me strength. Help me also to stand firm against the devil, who is always prowling around looking for someone to devour. Amen.
