2 Kings 19

Scripture – 2 Kings 19

Observation – 

  • 2 Kings 19:1-19 - Hezekiah’s prayers and Sennacherib’s threats.
    • 2 Kings 19:1-5 - Hezekiah seeks Isaiah in a time of great distress.
    • 2 Kings 19:6-7 - God’s word of assurance to Hezekiah.
    • 2 Kings 19:8-13 - The response of Rabshakeh to King Hezekiah and Jerusalem.
    • 2 Kings 19:14-19 - Hezekiah’s prayer.
  • 2 Kings 19:20-34 - God speaks concerning the situation.
    • 2 Kings 19:20-21 - Sennacherib is worthy of scorn, not fear and trembling.
    • 2 Kings 19:22-28 - God’s word to the King of Assyria and his representatives.
    • 2 Kings 19:29-31 - God will prosper wounded Judah.
    • 2 Kings 19:32-34 - God will defend Judah for His sake
  • 2 Kings 19:35-37 - God defends Jerusalem
    • 2 Kings 19:35 - God strikes down the army of Assyria
    • 2 Kings 19:36-37 - The defeated Sennacherib is judged in Nineveh.

Examples to follow – Come to God in times of distress. Come to him in prayer and in the word.

Examples to not follow – When you insult God, He will defend His Name

Sins to avoid – 

Promises to claim – When God is with you, your enemies are nothing.

Commands to obey –

Application – When you are in a time of distress, come to God in prayer.

Prayer – Heavenly Father, you are the God who defends your people and your name. I know I can call you in times of distress. Help me to know that I don't have to be discouraged in times of need because I know that you are with me. Amen.
