Observation –
- Matthew 23:1-12 - Jesus rebukes the scribes and the Pharisees.
- Matthew 23:1-4 - They lay oppressive burdens on others.
- Matthew 23:5-10 -They do their works to be seen, and they live for the praise of men.
- Matthew 23:11-12 - The way of Jesus: service and humility.
- Matthew 23:13-39 - The eight woes to the religious leaders.
- Matthew 23:13 - Woe to those who shut up the kingdom.
- Matthew 23:14 - Woe to those who steal from the vulnerable
- Matthew 23:15 - Woe to those who lead their converts on the wrong path.
- Matthew 23:16-22 - The religious leaders made false and deceptive oaths.
- Matthew 23:23-24 - The religious leaders are obsessed with useless things and ignore the important matters.
- Matthew 23:25-26 - The religious leaders are impure both inside and out.
- Matthew 23:27-28 - The religious leaders look good on the outside but bad on the inside
- Matthew 23:29-36 - The religious leaders honor dead prophets but murder the living prophets.
- Matthew 23:37-39 - Jesus laments for Jerusalem
Application – Don't be obsessed with useless things. Video Games, the current hobby.
Prayer – Dear God. Help me to not be obsessed with useless things. You are the only thing I need. I don't need to be obsessed with other things besides you and your word. Amen.
