Isaiah 8-9

Scripture – Isaiah 8-9

Observation –

  • Isaiah 8:1-10 - The incoming Assyrian invasion
    • Isaiah 8:1-4 - The invasion is announced by the naming of Isaiah's son
    • Isaiah 8:5-10 - Judah will be afflicted as well
  • Isaiah 8:11-22 - How Judah can prepare
    • Isaiah 8:11-15 - Prepare by fearing God, not Assyria
    • Isaiah 8:16-18 - Prepare by waiting on the Lord
    • Isaiah 8:19-22 - Prepare by seeking the word
  • Isaiah 9:1-7 - Hope for Israel
    • Isaiah 9:1-2 - Light will come
    • Isaiah 9:3-5 - Victory from the Messiah will come
    • Isaiah 9:6-7 - Glorious reign from the Messiah will come
  • Isaiah 9:8-21 - Judgement on Israel
    • Isaiah 9:8-12 - Israel will be defeated because of her pride
    • Isaiah 9:13-17 - Israel's leadership will be overthrown because of her refusal to repent
    • Isaiah 9:18-21 - Israel will attack her own brothers because of her wickedness

If we are prideful, refuse to repent, and are wicked, we will be judged. We can prepare by fearing God, waiting on Him, and seeking his word. God is a merciful God and he gives time, but there will come a time where there will be no more waiting. Everyone will be judged. This passage reminds me to be prepared.
