• Matthew 16:1-12 - Warnings against the Sanhedrin
• Matthew 16:1-4 - The Sadducees and the Pharisees seek a sign from Jesus.
• Matthew 16:5-12 - Jesus cautions the disciples against false teaching.
• Matthew 16:13-23 - Peter declares Jesus as Messiah
• Matthew 16:13 - Jesus asks the disciples to tell Him who others say He is.
• Matthew 16:14-16 - A pointed question and a pointed answer.
• Matthew 16:17-20 - Jesus compliments Peter for His bold and correct declaration.
• Matthew 16:21 - Jesus begins to reveal the full extent of His mission.
• Matthew 16:22-23 - Peter’s unwitting opposition of Jesus.
• Matthew 16:24-28 - Jesus' call to His disciples
• Matthew 16:24 - Jesus expects that His followers would follow Him by dying to self.
• Matthew 16:25-27 - The paradox of the cross: finding life by losing it.
• Matthew 16:28 - A promise to see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.

• Matthew 17:27 - Jesus pays the tax anyway by miraculous provision.

Application – I must die to myself and take up my cross.

Prayer – Dear Heavenly Father. Help me to die to myself. Help me to die to my flesh and my sinful desires and wholly want to seek you and your kingdom. Amen.
