Observation –
- 1 Samuel 15:1-16 - Battle against the Amalekites
- 1 Samuel 15:1-3 - A command: Destroy the Amalekites
- 1 Samuel 15:4-6 - Saul prepares his attack
- 1 Samuel 15:7-9 - Saul attacks the Amalekites
- 1 Samuel 15:10-11 - God regrets that he made Saul king.
- 1 Samuel 15:12-13 - Saul claims full obedience.
- 1 Samuel 15:14-16 -Saul "explains" his sin to Samuel
- 1 Samuel 15:17-35 - Saul is rejected as king
- 1 Samuel 15:17-21 - The charge against Saul; you've become arrogant, and his weak defense.
- 1 Samuel 15:22-23 - Samuel prophesizes judgement from God to Saul.
- 1 Samuel 15:24-25 - Saul's weak effort toward repentance
- 1 Samuel 15:26-31 - God's rejection of Saul as king.
- 1 Samuel 15:32-33 - Samuel finishes what Saul should've done.
- 1 Samuel 15:34-35 - The split between Samuel and Saul.
Application – We cannot excuse ourselves from what God had clearly commanded us. Be careful of claiming that you have obeyed fully when you haven't
Prayer – Dear God. Your word is true and straightforward. Help me to not make excuses like Saul did. But instead take responsibility for my actions. Amen.
Sins to avoid – Failing to take responsibility. Making excuses.

Summarize and apply – Saul disobeys God and is judged.
